Our Forest School is designed to foster a deep connection with nature while instilling values of respect and stewardship for the land from an early age. Through an intentionally crafted curriculum, children aged 3 to 5 engage in experiential learning that promote curiosity, empathy, and a sense of wonder towards the natural world.

Our Method & Curriculum
Child-Led Exploration
At the core of this teaching method is the principle of child-led learning. Children are encouraged to take the lead in their educational journey, choosing activities based on their interests and curiosities. Educators facilitate this process by providing a safe and supportive environment where children can explore freely. This autonomy not only enhances engagement but also promotes self-confidence and decision-making skills.
Curriculum Design
The curriculum in a nature-based preschool is flexible and responsive to the children’s needs. It integrates various subjects such as science, art, and literacy through hands-on activities in nature. For example:
Science: Children can observe plant growth, animal behaviors, and weather patterns firsthand.
Art: Natural materials like leaves, stones, and twigs can be used for creative projects.
Literacy: Storytelling sessions can occur around a campfire or during quiet moments in nature.
Educators act as guides rather than traditional instructors. They ask open-ended questions to stimulate thinking and encourage children to express their observations and ideas.
Safety and Risk Management
While promoting exploration, safety remains a priority. Educators assess risks associated with outdoor activities and teach children how to navigate these safely. This includes understanding boundaries, recognizing hazards (like poison ivy or steep slopes), and developing problem-solving skills when faced with challenges.
Community Engagement
A successful wilderness preschool also involves community participation. Parents are encouraged to engage in outdoor activities with their children, fostering a sense of belonging and shared responsibility for nature conservation.
Environmental Stewardship
An essential aspect of this teaching method is instilling a sense of environmental stewardship in young learners. Through direct interaction with nature, children develop an appreciation for biodiversity and an understanding of ecological systems. Activities such as planting trees or creating wildlife habitats help cultivate a lifelong commitment to protecting the environment.
Creativity & Sensory Play
Our program empowers children to nurture creativity and sensory skills through sensory stations, nature art activities, storytelling circles, and guided exploration walks. Through these experiences, they develop an appreciation for the earth’s beauty and learn to value its resources while cultivating a sense of responsibility towards the environment.
Earth-based Skills & Interactive Play
Engaging preschoolers in outdoor fort building and earth-based activities fosters their connection with nature, creativity, and physical activity. Activities like foraging for sticks and rocks, learning about plants and animals, and constructing forts with natural materials enhance cognitive abilities and environmental appreciation. Hands-on learning outdoors contributes to overall well-being and a sense of wonder in young children.
Conservation and Stewardship
Set in a vibrant outdoor setting, young learners explore ecosystems, observe wildlife, and engage in gardening. Under the guidance of experienced educators, children learn to interact gently and sustainably with nature, highlighting the importance of conservation and responsible behavior.
